Hither is the official Microsoft answer well-nigh installing a new hard drive for your Windows 10 PC:
Suppose I need to reinstall Windows 10 later one or ii years from now or I install a new difficult disk?
Windows ten is registered to the device, non your hard disk drive. Just install a new hard disk and reinstall Windows 10 and it will reactivate automatically.

I was successful in going from Windows 8.0 through 8.ane on the same HP desktop with no bug whatsoever. I recently went from 8.1 to Windows x, plus created fill-in images earlier (as 8.one) and after equally a briefly working 10. For the latter I created the DVD "Repair Disk Windows 10 64-fleck" that was supposed to link to my image file (as a fill-in safely created in Windows 10) on a spare difficult drive while Windows x actually worked (roughly 3 days). My Desktop is DIW. The repair disk is non a kicking disk so exist conscientious-it requires a performance Windows hard bulldoze-mine merely crashed. Worse still the Windows 10 surroundings will not recognize a new replacement hard drive to copy the image over to and aye I previously verified that the license upgraded to Microsoft standard equally Windows 10.
Where I am now is that I have a backed upwards full image and a "repair" DVD disk but a dead desktop that can not boot. At that place is no way to re-boot the machine to read the DVD to reach the image file, and after several hours I have had absolutely no success configuring the desktop. I have all of my personal files pre-backed upwardly on a Buffalo Raid drive merely I really don't want to re-install all of the programs from a common cold install to Windows 10. I regret doing the Windows x upgrade and support on an existing machine. It would have been easier ownership a new Desktop or if Microsoft used the same transfer method that 8.0 to 8.1 used. If you are going to endeavour the upgrade good luck, or if you succeeded congratulations. This equally non seamless as I actually expected information technology to be easier than going from 8.0 to 8.1. At the moment I can only utilise my laptop and no resolution for the Desktop in place. It is dead.

I have the same trouble. Just lost my hard drive Windows ten upgrade from viii.1. Went to Microsoft seeking solutions there are none. Made boot DVD purchase external drive for system paradigm. Supercede failed hard drive now left iPad but. Non a happy windows camper. Not the commencement fourth dimension now checking into a iMac cost without saying.

Why then I did the same thing, with the same situation today half-dozen/28/2017 and I begun to see references to activation.
Where practise to activate. When I endeavor it has fonts RED it must be activated,
